Key details:

22/09/2016 from Japan

-A Russian Warship fired three Caliber missiles against a US-lead intelligence bunker in Dar Ezza region in the Western part of Aleppo near Sam’an mountain.

– Sources say that they cannot confirm the nationalities of the killed officials, but if intelligence officers were killed, they were most likely US-led coalition.
-At this time, no response from any coalition nation has been released publicly.

This missile attack directly on the US can dramatically intensify the tension between Russia and the US. On Tuesday, Russian warplanes bombed an aid convoy of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, which was intended for Aleppo. The bombing was after the attack on Syrian military base by US-led coalition.

Russia strongly blamed this airstrike, calling for an emergency meeting in the U.N. security council. At the same time, Russia got an excuse in order to attack on Syrian opposition groups backed by the US.
The bombing on aid convoy by Russia can be seen as a vengeance for it, and the missile attack could also seem to be the same. However, this missile attack was directly on the US-led coalition and officers from multiple countries are expected to die. This will intensify the tension between Russia and those countries and lead to increased deployment of army from US coalitions as a reaction to this direct missile attack.

1. According to the investigation, the foreign officers who were killed in the Aleppo operations room were directing the terrorists’ attacks in Aleppo and Idlib (

2. The military operations room was set up by foreign intelligence services in order to coordinate operations of various militant group against the Syrian government forces in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib.

3. The implication: if this action was regarded as a revenge for the bombing in Deir ez-Zor, in this case the Kremlin preferred not to make public the loss of these men.

4. If it was not revenge then the military operation is a key point to investigate.
